Scotty McCreery gave fans another taste of his highly-anticipated fifth studio album with the release of his latest single “Why You Gotta Be Like That.”
Written by McCreery alongside James McNair and Jordan Schmidt, “Why You Gotta Be Like That” finds McCreery detailing how much he admires his wife Gabi throughout the song.
“My wife Gabi and I had a date night the evening before I wrote ‘Why You Gotta Be Like That’ with James and Jordan. She came downstairs looking gorgeous as usual, and well…the song tells the rest of the story,” McCreery said with a smile. “Writing with James and Jordan is always so much fun, and I think that genuine feeling comes through in the song as well.”

“Baby why you gotta wear them jeans / Hair down and a white tank top / Baby why you gotta be so mean / Looking so good I can’t stop / My hands from touching your body / You know I love it but I gotta ask / Baby why / Baby why / Baby why you gotta be like that,” McCreery sings in the chorus of the new song.
“Why You Gotta Be Like That” follows McCreery’s Top 15 and climbing single “You Time,” both songs are expected to appear on McCreery’s yet-to-be announced, currently untitled new album, which he plans to release later this year in the Fall.
On the upcoming album, fans can expect to find the North Carolina native leaning into his country roots with his signature storyteller lyrics that focus on topics of life, love, and the current state of the world coupled with the traditional sounds of fiddle and pedal steel.
“I definitely think this is a little more, like I said earlier, back to my roots kind of country,” McCreery told Music Mayhem of the new album. “There’s going to be plenty of pedal steel on it, there’s gonna be some fiddle on it. They’re story-telling songs, which I think is what I do best. Everybody has their thing. For me, I think it’s telling stories, so I’m gonna be singing about my wife, I’m gonna be singing about life, the country life, the state of the world right now in a couple songs, so, you know, it’s just a very real album, I think.”
Additionally, McCreery is gearing up to hit the road on his headlining ‘You Time’ tour in addition to appearing on select dates of Old Dominion’s Ballpark Tour.
“I’m excited to reunite with Old Dominion for their Live from the Ballpark Tour,” McCreery said, who last toured with the band in 2019. “These guys are not only amazing performers but great people, and this tour will be a blast. Plus, having been a pitcher on my high school baseball team, performing in these ball parks will be like coming home.”
